Online Course on Sexual harassment: Knowledge Support and Action for Staff and students

Introduction

Evidence from the baseline survey indicates that in-spite of existence of sexual harassment policy and establishment of response mechanisms to address the problem, the vice remain widespread affecting students and staff productivity and welfare. This is compounded by the fact that staff and students lack knowledge and skills to prevent and respond to the vice. This course has been developed to provide students and staff with information on the concepts, forms, drivers and consequences of SH. The course will also cover legal framework and structures for prevention, and response to SH. Further the course seeks to promote a culture of taking responsibility for prevention and response to SH in HEIs.

Objectives of the course

  1. To enhance staff and students’ knowledge about the different concepts and forms drivers and consequences of SH
  2. To equip staff with knowledge on the existing legal frameworks and structures for prevention and response to sexual harassment in HEIs
  3. To promote a culture of taking sexual harassment and abuse as a responsibility for all
  4. Provide free and accessible resources on SH to staff and students at the University

Learning outcomes

By the end of the course students and staff should be able to:

  • Articulate the concepts, forms, drivers, and consequences of SH
  • Explain and utilize the existing legal frameworks and structures for prevention and response to sexual harassment in HEIs
  • Take responsibility of preventing, reporting sexual harassment cases and supporting survivors of SH
  • Utilize SH resources provided on the platform

The course is online-based and expected to take one hour of continuous reading and response to a short quiz. Each module is comprised of a few key readings and an assessment quiz. A certificate of completion will be automatically generated on the successful completion of all the modules. The course is divided into three modules namely;

  1. Module 1: SH concepts forms drivers and consequences of SH
  2. Module 2: Existing legal frameworks and structures for prevention and response to sexual harassment in HEIs
  3. Module 3: Responsibility of preventing, reporting sexual harassment cases and supporting survivors of SH
